Walla Walla Foundry Field Trip
The Walla Walla Foundry is a world-renowned contemporary art fabrication facility that produces artwork for exhibitions, public spaces, and private collections throughout the world. It is one of the largest contemporary art fabricators in the world.
Through a partnership between Carnegie Picture Lab and the Walla Walla Foundry, elementary students in our region have the opportunity to observe the Foundry’s fabrication process. Craftspeople from the Foundry take time out of their work day to explain the wax process, the investment room (where the model is converted to a plaster mold which will then be filled with metal), and the finishing and patina rooms. The tour ends with a hands-on art clay sculpture activity and an interactive presentation that illuminates the entire collaborative process with contemporary artists, from ideation to finished sculpture.
