2022 summer sol

Another amazing summer of art making in Walla Walla elementary schools! Based on our 2021 Summer Sol experience and the feedback we received, the 2022 curriculum featured both skill-building lessons and open-ended creative exploration.  The five weekly lessons centered on drawing (oil pastels, chalk pastels, colored pencils), watercolor (painting and pencils), clay & sculpture, Art Chopped, and Open Studio (student choice)

Students also participated in several collaborative art projects:

  • A black foam core graffiti wall where students drew and wrote using paint markers

  • A loose parts mural where students glued random items onto a wood or cardboard base and then painted it with metallic paint

  • A weaving wall where students wove ribbon, raffia, and yarn through garden fencing

We are proud of the impact we made:

  • 23 days, 58 hours of activities/projects

  • Total Participants: 652

    • Low-Income: 64%

    • Students of Color: 53%

    • Special Education: 15%

    • Multi-Language Learner: 26%

    • Homeless: 25 students
