Announcing 2017-18 School Year’s Artists!

We’ve created a dynamic slate of artists and projects for 2017-18, and we are looking forward to introducing them to an expanded roster of schools – now including Dixie Elementary and Grove Elementary in Milton-Freewater.

Lillian Pitt, b. 1944, is a Native American artist from the Big River (Columbia River) region of the Pacific Northwest. Born on the Warm Springs Reservation in Oregon, she is a descendant of Wasco, Yakama, and Warm Springs people. Primarily a sculptor and mixed media artist, Lillian’s lifetime of works include artistic expression in Clay, bronze, wearable art,, prints, and most recently, glass. Students will create a 3-D paper mask, while learning about form, symmetry, color mixing and character portrayal.

Emily Carr (1871-1945) is a Canadian artist and writer inspired by the

Young Pines in Light

indigenous people of the Pacific Northwest Coast. Carr’s Modernist and Post-Impressionist paintings of the majestic forests and native villages did not receive widespread recognition until very late in her life. Students will paint a landscape on an art canvas while learning about how to create movement and light.

Andy Goldsworthy in Rivers and Tides

Andy Goldsworthy OBE, b. 1956, is a British sculptor, photographer and environmentalist who produces site-specific sculpture and land art situated in natural and urban settings. He lives and works in Scotland. Students will create their own site specific natural sculpture.
